Eifs

Mostly for commercial applications, EIFS or Exterior Insulating Finish Systems, is commonly used by architects due to it's high R-value and design versatility. EIFS is generally considered a "synthetic" stucco product because it replaces the lath and cement plaster of a traditional stucco system with styrofoam boards and acrylic based materials. Although these systems have received criticism, when done right, testing conducted by the Department of Energy concluded that EIFS systems are the best performing systems in relation to thermal and moisture control when put up against brick, cement board siding and even it traditional counterpart, stucco.

Plaster

Interior lath and plaster systems have been slowly phased out in new building since the introduction of drywall; however, the need for contractors who can repair these traditional plaster systems remains. Although it is not as prevalent as it was in the early and mid 20th century, interior gypsum plaster is still used to this day - primarily in educational and religious facilities. Whether it's new building or repairing existing materials, gypsum plaster requires a high level of skill and understanding of the materials in order to be applied properly while also giving the desired finished appearance.
